BCSS is looking for an experienced person in operations management to join our Ocean Observatory station in the Bazaruto Archipelago to manage & oversee the stations operations (day-to-day and commercial).
The position combines operations management, commercial strategizing, multi-tasking abilities, data reporting & visualization, problems forecasting as well as a solid mindset to work in a remote and isolated environment. BCSS offers professional training beyond the person capabilities, a generous salary to match experience, as well as a convenient leave schedule to be coordinated with the Station Manager to always maintain experienced personnel to run the station.

Full job description
The candidate serves as a company leader, overseeing day-to-day operations and focusing on long-term interests of the station. To succeed in this position, it is pivotal that the person has a track-record in successful commercial operations management and has experience leading, implementing, managing, and monitoring projects. It is desired that candidate has experience in research projects of an academic and/or commercial nature. The candidate needs to provide insight into the operations & commercial data gathered to assist leadership decisions and needs to maintain understanding of business operations/environment within the team to provide monthly operating review commentary. The candidate needs to actively pursue new business opportunities and plays an important role in marketing or corporate management. He/she manages functions such as employee activities and evaluations and other matters that relate to BCSS’s operations.
The day-to-day job will involve a lot of coordination & discussion with the rest of the team, and with the Station Manager onsite. Previous experience working in a marine station, research/academic environment is a bonus and desirable.
