7 Reasons to Apply for a Dive Master Internship at Bazaruto Center for Scientific Studies

At BCSS, we dive on a daily basis to collect data and conduct marine research, but as a dive master the opportunities are endless. You will learn to understand a completely new and largely unexplored world and one that is exciting, colorful and full of life. As a Dive Master Intern you will dive the thriving reefs of the Bazaruto Archipelago, while gaining invaluable skills and experience. Read on to learn more about why becoming applying for the Dive Master Internship is a great idea.
1. One on one mentorship with our PADI scuba instructor Mauro
Our passionate dive instructor Mauro has over 11 years of experience as a diver, and has been teaching since 2017. He has dived in many locations along Mozambique’s coastline, with any number of different conditions, ecosystems and people. The Bazaruto Archipelago is his playground, as he knows all the dive sites, channels and reefs like his back pocket. He truly loves what he does every day and will take his time to explain every part of the course in detail. With Mauro as your instructor, you will step off Benguerra Island feeling confident to guide groups underwater.

2. Dive a marine life biodiversity hotspot
The Bazaruto Archipelago National Park (BANP) is one of the best locations in the world
to dive, and the only official marine reserve in Mozambique. The BCSS research station faces the Indian Ocean through the Bazaruto to Benguerra Island channel, which provides direct access to the ocean. The Archipelago is known for megafauna such as bull and tiger sharks, manta rays, turtles and humpback whales, which all move through the incredibly colorful reefs that thrive with over 2000 fish species. With an estimated 250 dugongs living in the BANP, the archipelago is a truly unique and naturally rich destination to visit.

3. Engage in marine science
As BCSS’s primary mission is to conduct research, you will experience what it is like to live and work in a marine research station. With daily research expeditions by boat and lab work being done on a continuous basis, there is plenty of opportunity to learn more about subjects like environmental issues, the Ocean Observatory and shark tagging. Our residential scientists are happy to show you what their work looks like on a day-to-day basis.

4. Kickstart an exciting career
Becoming a professional diver opens up a whole new world, quite literally! As a dive master, you will be a leader and take charge of diving activities; whether it’s a recreational dive in the tropics or assisting scuba classes in a pool in Europe. As you will gain extensive dive knowledge and supervision abilities during your twelve-week training, afterwards you will be able to work as a dive professional and turn your favorite activity into a career. You will be qualified to work at dive centers, resorts, NGOs and even on yachts that cross the globe.

5. A thorough, 3-month internship
At BCSS, we like to thoroughly walk you through every part of the course with attention. This is why we only offer the Dive Master Internship as a three-month long commitment. Our dive instructor Mauro will make sure you are always safe and comfortable in the water and will be able to repeat segments of the course as often as needed. He will walk you through the dive master book and explain the theory during classroom sessions. As for the diving itself, he will make sure you can execute every skill perfectly and understand every part of the practical tests.

6. BCSS is a 5-star PADI Center
The research station is a
5-Star PADI Dive Center, ensuring high quality training and equipment. To gain a 5-star PADI Dive Center Certification, a dive center needs to provide a full range of PADI scuba diving education programs, exciting experience opportunities and equipment in excellent condition, while encouraging responsible diving practices and promoting marine life sustainability. BCSS has a test tank to conduct confined water training, and a comfortable RIB boat (001 Expedition) to bring you to the best dive sites.

7. Great value for money
Where average dive centers charge a separate price for the course, PADI fees, equipment rental, accommodation, food and transportation, BCSS offers a clear package that includes all of this for a minimal price. Once you arrive on Benguerra Island, there is no need to pay for anything else (unless you choose to take on another course e.g.) during your twelve-week stay. Our in-house chefs cook three nutritious and delicious meals a day and the sustainable accommodations is comfortable and includes daily housekeeping.
