BCSS Freediving Expeditions

February 21, 2020 | Zoe Whittall

We are excited to announce the upcoming free-diving trips for 2020!

These will be held quarterly here at BCSS; a winter trip from July 17-35, spring trip from September 19 – 26, and a summer trip from December 26, 2020 – January 2, 2021. We will be working in tandem with Pure Apnea, a Cape Town free-diving company.

The week long courses are open to everyone, whether you’re a seasoned free-diver or have never tried it before. This is an exclusive chance to explore the aqua waters of the Bazaruto Archipelago, where you can hope to see a variety of marine life from multi-colored tropical fish and tuna, to dusky, hammerhead, and reef sharks, to dolphins, dugongs, whales, and more!

Free diving is an eco-activity which allows you to explore both the underwater world and your own capacity for breath hold diving. The Bazaruto Archipelago is a unique marine environment in which to dive, with warm tropical waters and a vast array of marine life within the protection of the national park. When doing the course, you will stay at the BCSS eco-accommodation, allowing you to take part in a variety of other ocean-conservation projects should you so wish. Additionally, if you would like to do a free diving course, we offer Beginner and Advanced courses at an extra cost. These are a 2-day Pure Apnea beginner course, which will give you the guidance needed to reach depths of up to 10 meters as well as do shallow water rescues, and the Pure Apnea Adventure, a 3-day course that will refine your technique and qualify you up to depths of 20 meters.
